Overview
Throughout the semester for eight weeks you will be working in a group tracking weather.
Instructions
The weather in your local area will be different than the weather in one of your classmates area. For this assignment you will be randomly paired with 3 other classmates in a group of 4. What will your team be tracking and just how to track the weather in a team?
- One person will track, observe, and document weather in their area for 1 week. Then, you will rotate and one other team member will track their local weather for 1 week, and rotate again to someone new the following week. Everyone will have a chance to track weather in their area. You must document everyday when you are assigned your week.
- Track the forecasted weather using any outlook weather forecasts and TAFs.
- Observe the weather using satellite imagery, radar observations, METARs, Winds and Temperature Aloft, and Surface Analysis Charts.
- Document with screenshots, pictures, or copy/paste Microsoft 365 Word doc.
Use only aviation legitimate weather sources. i.e. AviationWeather.gov or equivalent.
- After everyone in your group has tracked their local weather for one week you must create a team weather report presentation. Your team will decide on the presentation method, but it can be a PowerPoint, Video, Infographic, Microsoft Sway, or any other online presentation tools. Your instructor will be looking for evidence that all 4 team members participated in the activity.
You will not need to meet in person for this activity; working remotely with each other can be easily accomplished. If your team has any questions, please contact your instructor.
Assignment Rationale:
Collaboratively demonstrate interpretation of current and historical aviation weather reports, forecasts and observations that affect aviation operations.
Submit
Your team will select one person who will submit your team assignments in Canvas. This person will submit your team plan by answering the following:
- How your team will communicate (MS Teams, Canvas Messages, cell phone numbers).
- Remember, communication is crucial in aviation so I expect your team to communicate early and efficiently.
- Primary collaborative software (Microsoft 365, etc).
- A rough timeline showing who is assigned to track weather for each week to complete the project by the end of Module 12 - see Team Weather Tracking Presentation assignment (200 pts).
- A team agreement on how you will combine individual contributions into the collective team presentation.
- Also, keep in mind that your group should have a private contingency plan if one group member fails to participate during their week.
