Discuss - Get to Know Your Team (Individual) (Discussion)

Why we are including this example

  Discuss

*Note: This discussion has been converted to a Canvas page to facilitate viewing in this public course.

Introduction: This module's discussion is just amongst you and your teammates. You are required to respond to ALL of your teammates for this module's discussion.

Task: Get to know your team and set yourselves up for success by finding common ground and sharing strengths, working habits, and how to connect.

Instructions:

  1. Write your discussion post and include these 4 areas:
    • Identify something you think you have in common with each teammate. Do not include the obvious like UVU students, same major/emphasis, you're in this course, etc.
      • Review your teammates' introductions from the Discussion in the Course Orientation module
      • See if you can find their social media accounts and review what you may have in common. Search using their names and/or our course hashtag #UVUComm3140
    • List 5 professional-type skills you want to contribute to your team
      • e.g., planning, public speaking/voice over, graphic design, videography, proofreading, researching, following directions, writing, photography, scheduling, assembling PPTs/Keynotes, digital video, understanding of Adobe CC, problem-solving, video conference pro, etc.
      • Find additional ideas in this article, Job Skills to Include on Your Resume Links to an external site.
    • Provide 1 piece of advice to help your team rock this semester!
      • Reflect on past group projects or work experiences and what worked or didn't work and share a piece of advice from one of those experiences
    • Share contact information to begin connecting so this week's Group Assignments can be completed on time.
  2. Proofread your post before submitting -- your classmates may not care but your professor will ;)

Part 1 - Due by Day 3/Wednesday: Complete the task noted for this Discussion by the deadline.

Part 2 - Due by Day 5/Friday: WISE TO DO THIS SOONER - By the deadline (but sooner is better so you can start to connect), respond to ALL teammates by writing a paragraph that does one or two of the following:

  • Share an insight from having read your colleague's posting.
  • Confirm or not if you have something in common
  • Pick a professional-type skill they referenced and comment on how it contributes to a Group Project
  • Expand on your colleague's posting.

Part 3 - Due by Day 7/Sunday: WISE TO ALSO DO THIS SOONER TOO - One aspect of social media is being responsive and part of the online universe. It's not just broadcasting but engaging. Go back to your original post from Day 3 and review what your teammates shared about your post. Acknowledge EACH of their posts and agree or professionally disagree.
