Unit 6: Discuss Hybrid Jobs (INFO-1120_Richard Ivie) | Julie Swindler
Why we are including this example
When creating discussion prompts, it is important to ask students questions that do not have one right answer. This is an example of some prompt options students can choose from. Notice that the prompts are directly related to the subject (hybrid jobs). Included are links to relevant information and resources students need in order to respond to their chosen prompt.

Discussions are opportunities to explore topics together. Posts to the discussion should add significantly to the conversation and support your point of view. It is okay to disagree in a discussion. In fact much learning happens when we disagree. However we need to be respectful and keep our online classroom a safe place to learn.
For this discussion, we will explore the concept of hybrid jobs.
Hybrid Jobs
Hybrid jobs require skills in multiple, seemingly unrelated areas. A bioinformatician Links to an external site., for example, combines research in biology, medicine, and health-related studies with information technology. Hybrid jobs often require both technical and creative skills and are likely to pay well and resist automation.
Burning Glass Technologies, a labor-market analytics firm in Boston, came up with the term "hybrid jobs" to describe these kinds of positions which require skills not normally found together. The company analyzed millions of job postings to better understand the skills employers are seeking. They discovered many employers want not only familiarity with advanced computer programs but also creative minds to make use of all the data.
