Course Orientation Module - Video Discussion | Aaron Isom

Why we are including this example

This discussion assignment is a great example because it serves multiple purposes. By asking students to record a brief bio, it helps foster a sense of community and connection, allowing everyone to put a name and story to a face, which is especially valuable in an online learning environment. Additionally, it introduces students to Kaltura, a useful tool for recording and submitting videos, ensuring they become comfortable with the technology early in the course.

  Discuss: Student Bio

*Note: This discussion has been converted to a Canvas page to facilitate viewing in this public course.

Overview

Please take a few moments to record a brief bio of yourself. You will be seeing each other throughout the semester in videos and it will be nice to place a name and story with a face. Additionally, this will give you an opportunity to learn to use Kaltura which is a way of recording a video and submitting that video on discussion boards. You will find the instructions for using Kaltura below and in each module that requires a video.

Instructions

Complete this assignment by doing the following:

Post a short bio (2 minutes) of yourself in an effort to help us get to know you. Do not feel compelled to provide personal information that would make you uncomfortable. Some information you might include would be where are you in your education, what are your professional goals, and what hobbies or interests do you have. Tell us something interesting about you that we would not know unless you volunteered the information. This will be the only discussion where peer replies are not required. However, please take time to watch your classmate's videos and get to know them since you will interact with each other through video discussions during the course.

Submit

Record your video following these steps the steps below. Your initial video post should be uploaded by the due date. Late assignments will not be accepted!

Video Recording Instructions
