Why we are including this example
The faculty wanted an assignment with different options for students to choose. We decided to use accordions to present the options and then had students submit a reflection on what they chose to do.
An Accordion of Options
This assignment structure gives students more choice in their learning, which can increase their intrinsic motivation, while keeping the tasks aligned with a specific purpose. The accordion structure keeps the page looking clean and simple, while providing enough room for more detailed instructions. The example below is from a family studies course.
Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to give you experience with different mindfulness and meditation activities.
Task
Choose one of the following four activities from below.
Complete the activity and write a short, 1-page reflection on your experience. Include the following 3 sections: 1) a brief introduction of which option you selected and why, 2) what you learned about yourself while doing the activity, and 3) how do you the activity as beneficial or not beneficial.
