WHY? (LEARNING OUTCOMES): We will use video discussions in this course (meet Course Outcomes #1, 2, 3, 4). Using video discussions provides an easy way for you to apply course information and self-reflect—valuable study methods to foster learning. As an alternate e-tivity assignment, you can choose ALT 2 E-tivity: Infographic.
HOW? (INSTRUCTIONS): You will create an Infographic on one of the psychoactive substances (alcohol, anxiolytics, caffeine, psychomotor stimulants, opioids, antipsychotic drugs, antidepressants, cannabis, or hallucinogens).
Here is an example of an infographic.
Alternatively, you can create an animated infographic, like this:
Your objective is to created an interesting visual (think: infographic) briefly summarizing the characteristics of one of the psychoactive substances (alcohol, anxiolytics, caffeine, psychomotor stimulants, opioids, antipsychotic drugs, antidepressants, cannabis, or hallucinogens), so that an outside observer could quickly learn the information summarized in the psychoactive substance table for that drug.
You should put effort into this assignment, but please do not feel overwhelmed by creating a visual. There are tools out there to make your information look good and presentable that require no skill or knowledge of graphic design. You can think of it as making a simplified "poster" about a specific psychoactive substance. You can design the poster in any medium you desire, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Photoshop, or one of the following programs:
- Canva: https://www.canva.com/ (Links to an external site.). Canva is really easy to use and convenient because it has tons of free shapes and designs for you to use. This program does not specialize in infographics, however, so you probably just want to choose the option to create a “poster” or “presentation.”
- Infogram: http://infogr.am/. (Links to an external site.) Infogram is a fabulous tool if you want to include a chart or graph in your infographic.
- Easelly http://www.easel.ly/ (Links to an external site.). Easelly has some great pre-designed Infographic options to work with.
GRADING RUBRIC: This alternate e-tivity is graded based on 10-point scale as follows: Visual attractive and interesting infographic (including at least 1 image) - 3 pts , Accuracy - 3 pts (characteristics of the psychoactive substance are accurate), Detail - 4 pts (all aspects of drug characteristics as in the psychoactive substance table are included).
