Items of Note
This course was developed with Instructional Designers Janel Mitchell and Daina Romney.
The unique thing about this graduate level course is that it is student-led and instructor-guided.
- Students determine their own real-world project, likely centered around a problem or area of improvement they would like to solve from their work.
- Students regularly meet in small, synchronous, group mentoring sessions with their professor where they can ask questions and get direction on their projects.
- Students present three portions of their final project and receive feedback from EVERY class peer!
- Being able to see other students' work and provide thoughtful and constructive feedback is an important part of the learning process for this course. It promotes meaningful dialog, useful comparison, and powerful learning.
Instructor
Professor Merrill has done a nice job of inserting himself into the instruction of this course with timely key concept video lectures, walking students through the information needed for their projects.
Peer Review
The Peer Review tool was created by our own Rebecca Lindsay utilizing Google sheets which are reset with each course refresh. Code names assigned to each student help us honor our FERPA responsibilities while enabling students to simply and easily select a peer's code name and provide constructive feedback on the project piece submitted in the discussion.
Each module culminates with students resubmitting their draft project assignments, implementing feedback from their peers and professor.
