Welcome Statement
Hello and welcome to class!
I am Dr. Kaicee Beal Postler. I use she/her/hers pronouns. I am thrilled to be teaching FAMS 4400 this semester.
My Ph.D. is in Human Development and Family Studies from UNC Greensboro (nationally ranked #4). I also have a Master’s degree in HDFS (also from UNC Greensboro) and a Bachelor’s in Psychology and Justice Studies from Westminster College.
I research how contextual and personal factors (e.g., income, gender, physical and mental health, etc.) impact family processes, such as marriage and parenting. I am also interested in programs and nonprofits aimed at supporting children, families, and individuals facing obstacles, such as pregnancy loss, infertility, low-income or poverty, substance use, mental health concerns, disability, and other adversity. I examine how issues related to inequality, such as gender, sexuality, class, race, and disability impact individuals and families embedded within community systems. I am interested in transformative research that focuses on community engagement, policy/program creation, and education. I am interested in interdisciplinary research that is conceptually informed by ecological, developmental, and feminist theoretical frameworks.
I am from Salt Lake City, Utah. In my free time I enjoy camping, hiking, biking, going to the beach, cooking and baking, and hanging out with my family.
I am looking forward to a great semester with you!
