Module 2: Read, Reading Assignments for Module 2
Read: Public Domain Review, Project Gutenberg, & Introduction to Drawing with Imagination
Introduction
Using Public Domain effectively is part of the expectations of this course. Below are the webpages to explore for this module.
Reading/Browsing Assignment
- Please read the Introduction to Keys to Drawing with Imagination. This is short, but packed with important fundamental ideas.
- Also, log onto a website: The Public Domain Review. Links to an external site. Browse through the content you find on the site - particularly the Essays and Collections, and come ready to discuss intellectual property, copyright, and the public domain. Even during your years as a student, there are important guidelines you need to follow to protect yourself from harm.
- Another important site is Project Gutenberg. Links to an external site. This too should be browsed. Everything published on this site is in the public domain.
Guided Reading Questions
- In Dodson's Introduction he makes an effort to define creativity. He has come up with eight simple statements defining the creative process. Reading through them, which two or three ideas struck you as most important as you consider your own work?
- Dodson also encourages non-mechanical reproduction of images - he says you should trace a reversed image on paper, instead of scanning it, and applying a horizontal or vertical flip. Why do you think he encourages a "more laborious" method?
- What do you think of the author's assertion that the quality of "wobble" is important.
