Welcome Statement
Welcome to AVSC 4160 Aviation Law!
In this course we will be covering a variety of legal and regulatory issues in class this semester, as well as current issues facing the aviation industry.
Since this is an on-line course, there will be a variety of assignments and discussion segments as the courses progresses. You will find in the modules section the reading quizzes, assignments, and discussion topics for the course. If you have any questions about the course, or a question about the subject matter or assignments, please do not hesitate to contact me. My contact information is on the syllabus.
Please ensure that you get the Seventh Edition of Practical Aviation & Aerospace Law, along with the Workbook. You will need both the book and the workbook to complete the course.
Finally, all assignments must be in APA format for this course. There are several good sources if you are unfamiliar with APA format, including the UVU Writing Lab (https://www.uvu.edu/writingcenter/) and the Prude OWL website (https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/general_format.html) (Links to an external site.). Format will count as part of your assignment's grade, so please use APA format throughout this course.
Again, if you have any questions, please let me know.
Best Regards,
-Dr. Jack Troutt
Education and Experience
I grew up in the Dallas, Texas area. After graduating from Garland High School, I attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma, where I graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Management. Upon graduation I commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force through OSU’s Air Force ROTC program. Upon leaving the Air Force, I worked at Omni Air International in Tulsa, Oklahoma, holding positions such as Maintenance Programs Administrator and Manager of Operations Training. While working at Omni Air, I completed both my Master’s and Doctorate in Aviation Sciences. Starting the fall of 2013, I taught as an Adjunct at OSU-Tulsa, before becoming a full time faculty member for Utah Valley University in August 2018
